Cultural Strategy Journal Series
Class
IMC 449: Integrated Strategic Messaging as Cultural Currency
Project type
Mini Case Studies
School
Northwestern University -- Medill School of Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications
Date
Spring Quarter 2026
Throughout IMC 449 (Integrated Strategic Messaging as Cultural Currency), I analyzed contemporary brand and organizational case studies through the lens of strategic communications, consumer behavior, and reputation management. Each journal built upon a central theme discussed in class, challenging us to move beyond surface-level reactions and examine the deeper forces shaping public perception, stakeholder relationships, and decision-making. By applying course concepts to real-world examples (including Target, Duolingo, Xbox, OpenAI, and E.L.F. Beauty), I developed a deeper understanding of how brands navigate cultural tensions, competition, crises, and change. The analyses below highlight several of the cases that most influenced my thinking as a strategist.
